Luxembourg-founded medical booking startup DOCTENA secures €8 million

DOCTENA, a GP appointment booking platform headquartered in Luxembourg, has raised €8 million in funding. The company is planning to use the money to strengthen its positions in the markets it’s currently present on, namely Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

The startup’s platform aims at connecting doctors to patients, as well as solving the issue of patients not showing up for appointments. In Germany, the company states, the no-show rate is about 10 percent, which causes a significant loss of revenue to practices.

DOCTENA states that its platform is already used by more than 10,000 doctors for the scheduling of some 1.5 million appointments monthly. It estimates the total number of active doctors across its markets at 500,000.

“By 2030, most appointments will be scheduled online,” Patrick Kersten, CEO and founder of DOCTENA, told Tech.eu. “But doctors are not innovators; for them, it’s very important who else is using the platform already.”

Founded in 2013, DOCTENA has raised a total of €12.5 million to date. Over the years, it has acquired five smaller competitors working on the DACH and Benelux markets: DocBook, doxter, Terminland, Sanmax, and MEDNANNY.
