Belgium’s leading online medical appointment booking company, Doctena, is taking over the physician clientele of the Belgian Sanmax Group, thereby strengthening its position as market leader.
This takeover adds 2,650 Belgian doctors to the growing Doctena platform. Created in 1998, Sanmax has evolved from a simple call center to an interactive reservation platform that also allows doctors to manage their schedule. The physicians who will join Doctena cover 25 different specialties. On average, 700,000 appointments are made each month via Sanmax. On some days, this number even increases to 40,000 appointments per day.

The acquisition of Sanmax is the fourth in two years for Doctena. Founded in 2013, the company has quickly grown significantly with the acquisition of the Belgian DocBook Group and the German Doxter Group. With the recent acquisition of the medical booking segment of Terminland and the Belgian Sanmax Group, Doctena strengthens its leading position in the Western European market.

According to Eurostat, there are on average 33,000 active doctors in Belgium. With a total of 3,500 users, 10% of doctors manage their consultations with Doctena. “Our rapid growth proves that doctors believe in the digitalization of the booking process. With Doctena, a doctor can easily save at least one hour up to several hours in administrative tasks per week,” argued Patrick Van de Mosselaer, CEO of Doctena Belgium and the Netherlands.

The next step for Doctena is to invest in digitization with hospitals. “We are confident that we are ready to engage hospitals in digitizing their booking process,” believes Patrick Kersten, founder and CEO of the group. Doctena is currently available in the Benelux, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Compatible with a growing number of medical scheduling software, it can be easily integrated into the organization of physicians and their practices.
